The definition of education is: the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. An enlightening experience. The definition of college is: an organized group of professional people with particular aims, duties, and privileges.
Receiving an education is just that, a privilege. Going to college is becoming more and more important in this day in age. However, college is becoming increasingly expensive and therefore more and more difficult for many to afford. This is where applying for scholarships come into play. College is an institution where one may go to meet new people, to get a good education, to learn about yourself, or even to get a good job after graduation. What a shame that some have to lose out on this experience simply because they cannot afford it. It is an experience that most everyone needs and should obtain, but some cannot given the cost.
People come to college to learn and explore their curiosities. When we enter college, we usually know very little about ourselves and our future. Some may not know what career path to take, what subject to study, or what we’re passionate about. The best answer is that college helps develop skills that can be applicable to the real world. College and education is where we receive structure, and support in learning these vast skills that can carry us throughout the remainder of our lives. It is an opportunity to network and increase our worth.
These are just a few reasons of why attending college and receiving an education is so important. And this is why I am so grateful for the opportunity that scholarships exist—to help people attend college who may not have been able to. This world needs well educated people running it and college is the answer.
